"Unknown Treasures" Roman Robe and Cape

Description

Ancient Roman style robe and cape costume pieces from unknown productions. They do not match, but they appear to be from the same filming era (circa 1960). 

Robe: Burgundy cotton-flannel robe with gold geometric stitching around the obverse center edges and bottom edge. A circular, gold-toned, metal ornament has been attached to the obverse proper right shoulder.

Cape: Red linen robe with mustard yellow interior. Edges of exterior are lined with gold lamé bands and several gold sun shaped appliqués. White tag on interior of collar has text reading “Fiddlers / COSTUMES / Los Angeles, California”. Interior has a silver carabiner clip near each shoulder. Interior has been altered from original for a 1970’s variety with yellow lining that has gold sequin panels lined with black and gray trim and small gold mirrors and rhinestones. Leaf appliqués on obverse appear to be intentionally removed near edge trim.

Condition

Robe: Obverse and interior below neckline have faded from over exposure to light from previous display. Several large areas of faded fabric on obverse and sides, some yellow and some purple. Small pinholes throughout reverse from previous display methods. Repaired tear on proper right side.

Cape: Cape is intentionally altered throughout. Color has faded to an orange throughout from overexposure to light from previous improper display. Small gold appliqués have fallen off out of center of sun shapes. Light dirt residue throughout bottom edge from wear and use. Strip of gray and black trim is loose from thread on interior near proper right at bottom.
