"Unknown Treasure" Red and Gold Gown with Headdress

Description

Two (2) piece ensemble from an unknown production from the late 1900s. Costume consists of a gown and a headdress.

Gown: Red, orange, gold, and green gown made of satin and organza. Bodice is corseted and has ivory colored lace trim along neckline. Top half of sleeves are gathered and have circular gold appliqués and red and gold bows on side. Bottom part of gathered sleeve is lined with green and gold fringe. Sleeve is green silk with red organza overlay and ivory lace on ends. Gold and red embroidery around wrists. Bodice has floral designs with gold and silver beading and embroidery. Gold metal pendants hang from neckline. Green and red sash extends from top of bodice on proper right to bottom of bodice on proper left. Gold and red pendant on top of sash on proper right while bottom left of sash has gold tassels on the end. Bottom of bodice has orange scalloped fabric that is covered in gold floral embroidery. Scalloped ends have multicolored tassels and beads. Top layer of skirt is red and gold striped fabric and is gathered on proper left and proper right sides with orange and gold bows at the ruching. Below the bows are four tassels of orange and red. Bottom edge has red and green striped ruffles. Second layer of skirt is red organza with gold, orange, and silver beaded and sequin appliqués around bottom edge. Bottom layer of skirt is green satin. Back of bodice has eye and hook clasps. Labels inside of neckline on back have text reading "Angels / AND BERMANS / The Costumiers to the Entertainment Industry / PARIS". White tag below with black text reading "Bermans International / 40 CAMDEN ST. LONDON N.W.1 / AMADEUS KATHERINA / 03605."

Headdress: Red, orange, gold, and green headdress made of satin with orange, red, and pink plume extending from top. Plumes attached to metal wiring for support and to hold shape. Strip of fabric extends down back headdress with gold metal tassels on the end. At base of fabric strip is gold encased rhinestone with gold metal tassel attached. Around base of headdress are small gold flower charms. On each side of headdress attached around end are two large pendants; one is a beaded turquoise sphere with gold chains circled around it, while the other is a silver chain with three metal spheres. In front center of headdress is a rhinestone pendant with pearls and gold cording. Bottom of pendant has hanging crystal bead with red and white beads in the shape of a flower above it. At the base of the plumes on front is a large pendant with an oval rhinestone surrounded by pearls, gold beads, and gold string. Five metal wires threaded with multi-shaped gold, red, clear, and pearl beads that extend straight up. At the base of the plumes on the proper left is a oval pendant of woven gold and red string with brown string covered piece on its proper left. Inside of headdress is lined with brown felt with circular metal wire at top to help hold form. White tag attached to lining on back with text reading "Bermans International / 40 CAMDEN ST. LONDON N.W.1."

Condition

Gown: Lace around neckline and wrists are slightly yellow and worn. Loose red string on bottom layer of skirt on front edge. Orange satin fabric around waist has small holes on proper right and proper left sides of front. Holes above scallops on orange satin fabric on proper left and proper right sides on back.

Headdress: Small stain in center of green fabric on front. Two small floral charms missing from proper left of chain around edge. Fabric is coming apart from lining on bottom edge in back. Label inside is stained and is pulling off lining on edges. Bottom edge of headdress is worn.
