Titular Memorabilia

Titular Memorabilia

Titular - of, relating to, or constituting a title.

Example: Tom Hanks plays the titular character in "Forrest Gump" as the character's name is the title.

The Planet Hollywood collection has had a few items that are also the film's title, and they make me ridiculously giddy! Seeing these pieces amuses me in the same way it does when an actor says the name of the movie within the movie such as in "Full Metal Jacket" (1987) when Pvt. Pyle (Vincent D'Onofrio) said the memorable line, "Full Metal Jacket."

In our current auction (which ends on September 27th!) we have the red shoes from "The Red Shoe Diaries" (1992), but that is just one of the items from the collection that falls under this category. We have the hatchet from "Hatchet II" (2010), a sledgehammer from "Sledge Hammer!" (1986-1988), silk stockings from "Silk Stalkings" (1991-1999), and quite a few toys from "Toys" (1992). Side note: some of these will be in upcoming listings.

While the collection has seen a few items from "Citizen Kane" (1941) over the years, we have never possessed a cane from the film (or any wicks from John Wick, or oranges from "A Clockwork Orange" (1971), or dogs from "Dog Day Afternoon" (1975)).

Arguably, the most famous titular items in cinema history are the ark from "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (1981) and the Ten Commandments from "The Ten Commandments" (1956). I'm not saying these are the most famous props ever, just the two of the most famous props that were directly mentioned in the title. No "Star Wars" film had "lightsaber" in its title, no "Back to the Future" film was called "A Boy with His Hoverboard and DeLorean" and "The Wizard of Oz" (1939) didn't have a working title of "Those Darn Shoes." "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy may seemingly fit this criterium, but the rings in the title refer to all of the rings created by Sauron, and not just the One Ring featured in the storyline.

What's your favorite titular film memorabilia item? Are there any major props or costumes not mentioned here that come to mind?

"The Red Shoe Diaries" red shoes auction ends on the 27th and more titular items are coming to the Planet Hollywood Vault next month and the months thereafter.
