Younger generations may not have heard of Dorothy Lamour unless they're film buffs or into old Hollywood. Her big break was in 1936's "The Jungle Princess" where she wore a revealing sarong designed by Edith Head. (It was revealing by 1930s standards!) She was a hit and quickly became known as the "Sarong Queen" and repeated this style in future films.
She was a popular pinup during World War II, promoted U.S. war bonds, and volunteered. In fact, she sold so many war bonds that she was nicknamed "the Bond Bombshell." Dorothy continued to be a fierce patriot and visited military bases well after WWII. She passed in 1996 and has been honored with TWO starts on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
After her death, property from her estate was auctioned off by Sotheby's. It was also around this time that Planet Hollywood was expanding and in search of memorabilia. Our stars aligned, and the Planet Hollywood collection obtained many items from the late icon. We still have many items from "Dottie" in our collection, and you may notice occasionally they pop up in our auctions and many are listed in the permanent "buy now" listings. More items will be added in the future as there are still fans of the Sarong Queen, even after all these years.
