Hollywood has become so much more than just a neighborhood in Los Angeles. For most of the 20th century, it was another way to refer to "the American film industry." Our definition has grown as the entertainment industry has changed over the last 20 something years. Hollywood is now movies, television, celebrities, streaming services, and pretty much anything else pertaining to the making of professional video content.
The television medium of Hollywood is being celebrated this weekend as the 76 Primetime Emmy Awards are airing live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. EDT (5:00 p.m. PDT). Hosted by the father and son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, it's sure to be a fun show.
The FX Network is going in strong with "Shogun" (25 nominations) and "The Bear" (23 nominations), but Netflix has beat all the other networks going into the ceremony with 107 nominations! While it's an honor to be nominated, this doesn't necessarily mean the aforementioned nominations will garner awards. "Only Murders in the Building" (21 nominations / Hulu), "The Morning Show" (11 nominations / Apple TV+), and "True Detective: Night Country" (19 nominations / HBO) all have a good chance to be the show that sweeps the night.
The awards show might not be until Sunday, but the parties start today in Hollywood, and they won't stop until Monday morning! In fact, the first event started at 11:00 a.m. PDT with the "Harvest Emmy Awards Celebrity Gifting Suite" at the Beverly Hills Marriott.
We can't wait for the ceremony, and we wish all the luck to the nominees!
