Our featured collection this week belongs to Patrick Hearty! Patrick is from the Washington, DC, area and has been building his collection over the last decade. We'll let Patrick tell you all about it in his own words.
- Can you share a little about yourself?
I am a carpenter in Washington, DC area. I started collecting comics when I was a kid. As I got older, I got more into replica props. Both building them and professionally made licensed items. About ten years ago I got into screen used and production made items. I have basically sold off everything at this point in favor of screen used and production made costumes and props. It has been a sort of evolving thing. I started with just props. Now I prefer to seek out complete costumes rather than a single item.
- What can you tell us about your collection?
My collection is sci-fi and horror because that is where my interest is. I have a few action film type things and a few fantasy items. But the bulk is horror and sci-fi. When it comes to sci-fi, I am bit picky as well. I like the grimy sci-fi rather than the clean "Star Trek" type stuff.
- What was the first item in your collection?
I have been collecting about ten years now. I think my first props were from "Ghost in The Shell."
- What's your favorite item in your collection? Do you have a certain prop or costume you'd love to add to it?
I can’t say I have one single favorite. I have gotten to the point where it is dense enough that there are so many amazing things I would hate to part with. But if I was going to pick one that everyone seems to really enjoy it would be the prototype Green Goblin from Spider Man.
As to what I am looking for; anything "Blade Runner," "The Collector," any Del Toro films, "Dune," and so many more. lol I am insatiable. lol
- Are you currently expanding your collection or seeking new items for it?
Yes, I am always adding. I do sell as well here and there. But it is always sales with an eye on expanding.
