Family traditions (or peer pressure from ancestors depending on how you look at it).
In the United States, many of us view Thanksgiving as the start of the holiday season. We gather with our families, eat turkey, watch some television or a movie, eat some more turkey, play games and/or argue, and then eat some more. We do this each year near the end of November, and then we do it again a month later, but with variations on the menu.
Of course, here at the Planet Hollywood Vault, our favorite Thanksgiving tradition is watching movies! (Also, pie, but this isn't a pie blog, now is it?) That's why we wanted to take a moment and talk about our favorite Thanksgiving movies.
- "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" (1987) is one of our favorites and HAS to be played at some point during the day even if it's in the background so we can all yell "Those aren't pillows!" together... as a family.
- "Miracle on 34th Street" (1947 or 1994) is another holiday classic you might find us watching on Thanksgiving. After all, the movie starts when the "real" Santa is hired for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Plus, it's a nice segue into the bombardment of Christmas movies we start watching in December.
- "Son-in-Law" (1993) might get us some judgmental looks, but we love Pauly Shore! And when we're munching down on some Thanksgiving grindage, it's always fun to watch "Crawl" sing "Country Boy" while riding his first tractor.
- "Addams Family Values" (1993) holds a special place in our hearts. Not only is it one of our favorite movies of the 1990s, but the Thanksgiving pageant the kids perform at Camp Chippewa is just hilarious!
