"Unknown Treasure" Dress with Coat and Hat

Description

Three-piece ensemble from an unknown production circa 1940.  Costume consists of a dress, coat and hat.

Dress: Silk dress with black background and large pink dots throughout. Black waistband around bodice. Large black hooks and eyes going down front center of bodice and around curve of waistband on proper left side. Bottom of skirt has black border. Cream label sewn into inside of skirt on back with text reading "MENE / BULLOCK'S / WILSHIRE".

Coat: Black wool coat with silk fabric lining on inside panels and collar of black with large pink dots throughout. Lining inside back of coat is Coat has leaf patterned frog clasp at neckline. Vertical welt pockets on each panel at hips. Cream label sewn into lining on back of neckline with text reading "MENE / BULLOCK'S / WILSHIRE".

Hat: Black felt beret with black elastic string to tie around chin. Underside of beret is adorned with small and large black sequins. Large sequins are scattered throughout, while smaller sequins create circles on sides and scroll design in center. Inside is lined with black satin. Cream tag sewn in lining on side with text reading "MADE IN AMERICA / Joba Fredericks INC." with handwritten tag on proper left reading "H-4842 G. Rogers".

Condition

Dress: Two large holes in back of collar on proper right and proper left side. Fabric splitting from seam in top center of proper left and right shoulders. Fabric is splitting underneath bottom clasps on proper left side.

Coat: Small tears in fabric on top of collar. Brown stain in lining below label. Small pin holes in black lining in center proper left and proper right. Frost clasp is slightly loose and detaching.

Hat: Several of the sequins are missing and glue residue visible where they used to be. Strands of the smaller sequin are loose and or missing on scroll design and one of the circles. Elastic strap is broken off from proper right side and elastic no longer stretches. Loose strands of string on top and around beret opening. Tag is flaking on edges.
